When we first launched PositivityTech, we shared an early Q&A about what we expected the platform would do.
At the time, our vision was already bigger than customer complaints alone. We knew that customer narratives represented one of the most powerful and underutilized data sources in business. We started with complaints, particularly high-risk customer interactions, because they were accessible, structured, and rich with signals. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) complaint data gave us an open data set to begin — and we knew this was just the starting point.
Our focus was, and still is, on the broader opportunity: using customer narrative data to drive analytics, power algorithms, and generate predictive insights that can shape business strategy, cost savings, and revenue growth. Whether structured or unstructured, internal or external, these raw customer narratives hold immense value when they are captured and analyzed at scale.
That belief shaped how we built PositivityTech and how we’ve continued to evolve it.
In this three-part series, we’re revisiting that original Q&A with the benefit of years of experience and real-world application. This installment explores how our perspective has shifted from hypothesis to proof. Part 2 will focus on the most powerful use cases for PositivityTech today, and Part 3 will highlight the milestones and achievements that have validated this work.
When you first launched PositivityTech, you talked about unlocking the hidden value in customer complaints. How has your perspective on that opportunity evolved?
From the get-go, we had a strong point of view about the value of customer complaint data. Now, we understand and can quantify just how big that opportunity really is.
Customer narratives are predictive. They tell you what customers are going to do before they do it. They reflect broader shifts in behavior and sentiment before those shifts show up in traditional data. And they guide how customers will interact with your business.
Over time, we’ve seen that the real value is in connecting customer narratives to customer behaviors and to decision-making processes across the business. When customer narratives are integrated with other data sources, and variables derived from the narrative are integrated into algorithms, they become essential to business intelligence. Ongoing intelligence is key to finding new areas of growth.
If you want to enhance how you predict the future financial performance of your business, your customer complaints provide those signals. Additionally, PositivityTech’s risk indicators delve deeper into the drivers of future financial performance and are early indicators of risks and opportunities.
What has changed in the market since PositivityTech’s launch that makes the platform even more relevant today?
Three big things have changed:
1. There’s a growing recognition that customer narratives are one of the most valuable forms of first-party data, and they need to be integrated into strategy, intelligence gathering, and operations. Organizations are beginning to understand that their customers’ voices — whether captured internally or across external platforms — are a direct reflection of experience and behavior. The market is increasingly rewarding companies that know how to use that data effectively.
You can see this in how platforms built on human conversation are being valued. Reddit, for example, has seen strong growth in recent years, driven in part by the value of its data for advertising and licensing to AI companies training large language models.

2. At the same time, there’s a growing awareness that not all data is created equal. Even platforms like Reddit have acknowledged that a meaningful portion of online content can be manipulated or is inauthentic. This makes validated, high-quality customer narrative data even more valuable.
The value that PositivityTech provides: Our platform is built on a curated dataset of real customer complaints, combined with proprietary algorithms that differentiate signal from noise.
We have brought this data to market as a product that delivers predictive insights grounded in authentic customer experiences.
3. The fraud environment itself has become more complex. We’ve seen how quickly risks can develop, particularly around fraud and customer protection. Customer complaint data provides an early indicator.
In digital money transfers, customer narratives revealed growing frustration about their mobile or digital wallets. In these cases, customers signaled the issues early. We know that what customers say — especially in moments of friction — is a precursor to what they will do next. Today, we have the models to turn customer complaint data into actionable analytics.

In Part 2, we’ll share how we’ve turned these insights into action with algorithms and use cases. Stay tuned!
